Statutory

During a legislative session, enacted statutes of a general nature are printed individually in a format officially referred to as slip laws. At the end of a session, the slip laws are combined into a bound volume or volumes which are officially referred to as the Laws of Pennsylvania and unofficially referred to as the Pamphlet Laws. Pamphlet Laws also contain appropriation laws; joint resolutions which amend the Constitution of Pennsylvania; vetoes; proclamations; tables of statutes affected; indexes; and certain other documents. Pennsylvania legislation has been partially "consolidated" (reorganized and codified) as part of a program initiated by the act of November 25, 1970 (P.L. 707, No. 230), known as the Consolidated Pennsylvania Statutes. Those consolidated laws are published in the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes and updated from time to time.

Since the legislative session of 1969, the Bureau has had the responsibility of editing and overseeing the publication of the slip laws and the Pamphlet Laws. In 1974, the Bureau was also given statutory authority to edit and issue an official publication of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes.
